GILL SANS SPECIMEN BOOKLET

GILL SANS SPECIMEN BOOKLET

Gill Sans Typeface Specimen Booklet | 2023 | Personal Project

This booklet is a curated specimen of the Gill Sans typeface, designed to showcase the versatility and rich history of one of Britain's most iconic typefaces. The project combines historical context with modern typographic presentation, reflecting the cultural and visual impact of Gill Sans in both print and public space.

The Gill Sans Typeface Booklet explores the origins and evolution of the typeface, originally designed by Eric Gill in the 1920s. Known for its clean, humanist lines and enduring legibility, Gill Sans has played a pivotal role in shaping British visual identity, most notably in transportation and government signage.

This project aims to not only inform but visually celebrate the timeless quality of Gill Sans in both historic and contemporary design landscapes.

To reflect this heritage, the booklet design draws inspiration from London’s Underground signage—where Gill Sans famously appears—using geometric structure, strong typographic hierarchy, and color palettes inspired by the Union Jack. The layout mirrors the order and clarity found in public transport systems, emphasizing function without sacrificing aesthetic value. The specimen pages demonstrate Gill Sans in various weights and contexts, illustrating its flexibility across editorial, branding, and environmental design.
